In the historic art
colony of Nashville Indiana, the wide windows of an attractive stone
cottage overlook Brown County's courtyard gardens and pastoral hills.
Inside, working under large hand hewn beams and surrounded by locally
forged architecture, jewelry artist Amy Greely patiently coxes earthen
metals, minerals, gemstones and pearls to life.
Inspired by ancient
civilizations, modern architecture and nature, Amy skillfully crafts
unique jewelry interpretations from sterling silver, 18k gold bi-metal,
and copper. Adapting metal smith techniques learned at Indiana
University, she enhances simple shapes with a variety of textures and a
rich palette of patina choices, yielding designs that are modern, fresh
and alive.
Amy further
embellishes her pieces with precious stones or pearls, reflecting a body
of work that is simple yet sophisticated, elegant yet sometimes quirky,
playful and fun to wear. “Exploring contrasts is a fundamental
motivation” Amy says with a smile.
Early training in
sculpture at Indianapolis' Herron School of Art and Design greatly
influences her work as she condenses sculptural ideas and concepts into
stunning pieces of wearable art. “I view jewelry as tiny works of art,”
Amy says. “Creating language through shape, texture, pattern, and color
is important to each piece allowing me to establish a personal dialogue
with the wearer.”
